(ISSA)INITIATIVE FOR SPORTS AND SOCIAL ARTS
A youth initiative found by the desire of the young people of Kibera to address thematic issues within and outside Kibera.
ISSA is a proactive youth organization with a dedication to capitalize on the abilities of the young people in bringing about social change.
The youth are constantly looking for role models to emulate. They do what they see around them. Their talents, innovation and productivity can be tapped and empowered to attain holistic growth, this is embedded in the dream of ISSA.
The youth form the largest percentage of any society including Kibera. They are more creative, productive, innovative and talented. Against this backdrop is Kibera. A place identified with all sorts of evil and problems including HIV/AIDS, crime, prostitution, illiteracy, unemployment, lack of water and sanitation, drug and substance abuse, and poverty among others. Most of these occur due to negative peer influence and lack of responsibility from the relevant authorities, among other factors.
With a changed youth, come a changed community and a society. Thus the Initiative for Sports and Social Arts (ISSA) was formed to initiate the youth to take charge of their destiny.
ISSA focuses on Recreational, Cultural and Social Arts as a vehicle to involve the youth in promoting a culture of responsibility and participating in decision-making of pertinent issues.
The Initiative envisages to ultimately linking the issues of the youth development with the policies at the national level.
We aspire to facilitate a process of reviewing the Gender roles and distribution of resources in our society. Towards this end, we have a big percentage of youth in Kibera in different events and/or activities. Each event has had a topical issue and theme on Drugs, HIV/AIDS, Gender, and Environment among others.
We are convinced that the youth hold the power and strength to be agents of change.

Ø To create an environment and culture where youths take charge in resolving issues affecting them, by making informed decisions
Ø To create a platform for youths to review gender roles in the society

Ø To raise awareness on HIV/AIDS
Ø To partner with relevant organizations and institutions with a view to supporting people living with HIV/AIDS and other vulnerable communities in attaining basic needs, and education
Ø To raise the living standards of youths by initiating a meaningful income generating activities
